Front cover illustration

DAPI-stained culture of the dinoflagellate Symbiodinium clade A (diameter 9-14 {mu}m), in its non-motile form. UV light is represented in blue, visible light in red. The bacteria-free culture, fixed with methanol/acetic acid (3 : 1), was photographed using an Olympus BX60 fluorescence microscope with a 100x objective, and data were collected using a Hamamatsu Photonics ORCA-ER digital camera and its accompanying software, all kindly provided by Dr Liz Harry (MMB). A consortium of alveolate researchers is currently involved in lobbying to have the genome of this organism sequenced. Micrograph by Bob Moore, MMB, University of Sydney, Australia. See the paper by Moore and others in this issue, pp. 1725-1734.
