Characterization of novel psychrophilic clostridia from an Antarctic microbial mat: description of Clostridium frigoris sp. nov., Clostridium lacusfryxellense sp. nov., Clostridium bowmanii sp. nov. and Clostridium psychrophilum sp. nov. and reclassification of Clostridium laramiense as Clostridium estertheticum subsp. laramiense subsp. nov., by S. Spring, B. Merkhoffer, N. Weiss, R. M. Kroppenstedt, H. Hippe & E. Stackebrandt

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology vol. 53, part 4, pp. 1019 - 1029

Due to an error introduced during copy-editing, throughout the paper it is implied that the position of the double bond in unsaturated fatty acids is located by counting from the methyl ({omega}) end of the carbon chain. However, the positions of double bonds given were in fact counted from the carboxyl end of the fatty acid. Hence, 14:1{omega}9c (Table 2) should read 14:1 c9; 16:1{omega}7c (Table 2, p. 1027) should read 16:1 c7; 16:1{omega}9c (Table 2, pp. 1024, 1027 and 1028) should read 16:1 c9; 16:1{omega}11c (Table 2, pp. 1027 and 1028) should read 16:1 c11; 16:1{omega}7c dma (Table 2) should read 16:1 c7 dma; 16:1{omega}9c dma (Table 2, pp. 1024, 1027and 1028) should read 16:1 c9 dma; 18:1{omega}9c (Table 2) should read 18:1 c9 and 18:1{omega}9c dma (Table 2) should read 18:1 c9 dma. A corrected version of Table 2 is given below.

Table 2. Cellular fatty acid compositions of the four novel isolates, C. laramiense and C. estertheticum

Strains: 1, C. frigoris sp. nov. DSM 14204T; 2, C. lacusfryxellense sp. nov. DSM 14205T; 3, C. bowmanii sp. nov. DSM 14206T; 4, C. psychrophilum sp. nov. DSM 14207T; 5, C. laramiense ATCC 51254T; 6, C. estertheticum DSM 8809T. Values are percentages of total fatty acids. Major fatty acids (>5 %) are in given in bold. Spaces indicate that the fatty acid was not detected. Abbreviations: cyc, cyclopropane; dma, dimethylacetal; ECL, equivalent chain length; WiC, Wilkins–Chalgren medium.
