Thermobifida cellulolytica sp. nov., a novel lignocellulose-decomposing actinomycete, by J. Kukolya, I. Nagy, M. Láday, E. Tóth, O. Oravecz, K. Márialigeti and L. Hornok

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology vol. 52, part 4, pp. 1193-1199

Red-green stereo images of spores (approx. 1 µm diameter) of Thermobifida cellulolytica DSM 44535T. The images should be viewed 3-D glasses (left eye red, right eye green) The formation of these white, dense spore clusters leads to the appearance of the so-called chalky white zone or fire-fang seen on the upper layer of the compost windrow. The electron micrographs were obtained with an LEO-Zeiss EM910 electron micrograph aided with Soft Imaging System SIS 3.0 software. Pictures taken by László Szabó, Agricultural Biotechnology Centre, Gödöllö, Hungary.
